How's it going? I hope this finds you well! I have noticed this past month was an extremely transitional month as more and more people seem to be contemplating a move in one way or another. I'm curious if you are feeling or noticing this as well.
As prices around the Bay Area continue to creep up and interest rates continue to be at a historic low, one of the hot topics on the minds of many of us remains our housing shortage. Last month I attended the annual California Association of Realtors Leg Day in Sacramento to talk with our lawmakers about "Hot Topics" related to housing. With a powerful address delivered by Governor Newsom and an inspiring smaller office chat with Senator Nancy Skinner, there is no doubt the pressure is on Sacramento to
incentivize more housing development in order to address this shortage. According to the article below, over 200 bills have been introduced by state legislators this year to tackle California’s housing crisis. I look forward to seeing how our legislators continue to work towards finding long-term solutions!
Want to Get Involved?
Are you are interested in getting involved with a local effort to help ease the homeless epidemic? Join us!
I have been working with a group called Almost Home Oakland that is strategizing with community leaders to implement an already successful plan called the Cabin Communities. These are healthy and socially-supportive emergency shelters for the many unhoused Oakland residents currently living in tent encampments. These cabin communities provide immediate, short-term (6 months) shelter, services and support for each individual to determine their best long-term plan. Together, our involvement can change lives and make a tremendous difference!
If you would like to join me in getting involved please fill out this Google Form to get in touch, make a donation, or receive information about our first fundraiser on Sunday, June 9th!
Summer Fun in Oakland
Summer is festival season and the Bay Area has plenty! Here is a list of festivals happening throughout the rest of the summer including some great options for this coming Memorial Day Weekend.
Have you ever tried Stand-Up Paddleboarding? California Canoe & Kayak offers lessons in the sheltered water of the Oakland Estuary right off their dock in Jack London Square. They offer both private and group classes as well as equipment rentals.
Top Hatters Kitchen, a new restaurant focusing on the concept of 'peasant food' from Chef DanVy Vu, has opened in San Leandro. The restaurant brings its eclectic menu to a former hat shop with Vu drawing inspiration from her father's cooking, "I always refer to my dad as a modern-day peasant; he was able to create really delicious dishes under limitations, and everything was made from scratch." I can't wait to check it out!
Thank you to all who weighed in on last month's poll about e-scooters! Here are the results:
20% of you responded that you use e-scooters regularly. 40% said that you might try one.
And another 40% of you fall into the never going to try one category.
Do you remember the Mondrian House that we shared with you a couple of months ago? Rumor has it, the new owners may repaint the facade to curtail the attention and keep people from stalking their new home. I am glad I had the chance to admire the home's unique style!
